They are here printed without substantial alteration. The notes and bibliography are not supposed to represent an adequate guide to the critical literature on an enormous subject, but are rather intended as an acknowledgment of principal works consulted in preparing these limited studies.' Includes Selected Bibliography and Index. Richmond Alexander Lattimore (May 6, 1906 - February 26, 1984) was an American poet and translator known for his translations of the Greek classics, especially his versions of the Iliad and Odyssey, which are generally considered as among the best English translations available. Richmond Lattimore and David Grene edited the nine volumes of 'The Complete Greek Tragedies,' published by the University of Chicago Press. Over the years, these authoritative, critically acclaimed editions have been the preferred choice of over three million readers for personal libraries and individual study as well as for classroom use.
